- Decide on a common study/homework time. It should be roughly the same time every day.
- Decide on a common location that is free from distraction. (TV, radio, and phones can be distracting.)
- Check the work - Parents looking over their child's work helps with responsibility and accuracy. It lets the child know that you are concerned and willing to help.
- Be Helpful- sometimes the parent can better explain the work, parents have a way of talking to their child that can better explain problems.
WHAT TO DO WHEN THERE IS NOTHING TO DO
- Watch a television program with your child. When the program is over ask the following questions:
• Retell the story
• List the events of the story in the order they happened
• Tell who the main characters are in the program
• Make up a new ending to the story
- Clean the house together. Have your child sort items and describe the rule in why they sorted them.
- Go on a nature or scavenger hunt
- READ READ READ - Students that don’t continue with their reading over the summer lose so much come August. Reading daily will help reinforce those necessary skills.
